PROCESS
1. It all starts off with two blocks of basswood, one for the head and one for the body.
2. A band saw is then used to cut the basic shape.
3. Depending on desired decoy, basic shapes are carved using templates.
4. Carving is done using knives, stones, and grinders.
5. A heating element is used to add details.
6. Details included feathers and wings.
7. Shapping the head takes extreme patience due to bill shapes and eyes.
8. Once the rough shape is achieved, decoy is hollowed so it can float (not recommended).
9. A near finshed head, pre-fabricated eyes are inserted.
10. An example block of wood (start) and the final product.
